Proposing a character template:
Name: Your name.
Nickname origin: If you have a nickname from your service, where did it come from?
Sex: Your sex. Maybe you were a woman in disguise, and that's why you were kicked out.
Age: Your age.
Former Role: What you were in the army.
Former rank: How high up were you on the ladder?
Why they were discharged: The reason you were told to go home.
Was it an honorable discharge: Whether or not your discharge was a disgrace or not.
Clothes: What you're wearing.
Have they purchased any armor since their service: Do you own any protective gear? You haven't felt the plate or full mail in ages, but perhaps you have something. It would be something you could wear around comfortably. Maybe you wear a haubergeon and arming doublet under your tunic. Maybe you just wear an aketon around openly to show off your martial past.
Do you carry a weapon around: The streets can be dangerous, especially at night. Do you carry a sidearm for self-defense? It would have to be something that wouldn't be inconvenient to carry. A dagger, sword, or possibly a mace or carefully managed handaxe would be the right choice.
Example:
Name: Arahad "Mustard and Fire" Manhunter
Nickname origin: He once said, "War without fire is like sausage without mustard."
Sex: Male
Age: 31
Former role: Ranger
Former rank: Captain
Why he was discharged: On a campaign against the Umbarans, he and his unit were exceptionally brutal. He and his entire troop (47 other men, who all also had a bone to pick with the southerners) were discharged quietly at the end of the campaign. It was done so because even though their actions were forbidden, it was also beneficial to their efforts. Currently, he is working as a manhunter in the city.
Was it honorable or not: No. It was done quietly though, so most don't know he was discharged, thinking he left voluntarily. The average person does not know the truth about his actions.
Clothes: Brown pants with great black boots, and a green tunic.
Any armor: light aketon, blue, and haubergeon, in addition to hard leather bracers. Unlike most, wears it openly to mark his profession. What he doesn't wear openly is the second haubergeon.
Any weapons: A longsword and dagger.
